Introduction

"Silk Road" International University of Tourism was founded on June 28, 2018. The establishment of the University was proposed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's summit in 2018. It is the only purely tourism focused university in Central Asia and the first state university with international status in Uzbekistan.

Given the gradual transformation of tourism into a strategic sector of Uzbekistan's economy, training and education of highly qualified and competitive personnel for the tourism industry is becoming increasingly imperative. The university aims to enhance the image of the country as an attractive tourism center along the Great Silk Road and to contribute to the development of the services industry through provision of international standard education.

"Silk Road" International University of Tourism targets to become a leading scientific and educational center of Central Asia. Since 2019, the University has been implementing a joint educational program with issuance of double degree Bachelors diplomas with Sahid Polytechnic Institute (Indonesia), Sahid Institute of Tourism (Indonesia), Guilin University (China) and University of Logistics (Czech Republic). All academic degree courses are delivered in English.

The University is located in Samarkand city, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of Central Asia and the most significant tourism destination of the region. In 2001, UNESCO inscribed the city to its World Heritage List as Samarkand – Crossroad of Cultures.

Job summary

Responsibilities would include courses in any two or more of the following areas: International Hospitality and Tourism Management, Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions Management, Tourism Marketing, Digital Media in Tourism, F&B Management and Transport and Logistics Management in Tourism.

The successful candidate is expected to mentor/advise students’ organization, pursue and accomplish scholarly research, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research or project, participate in other university duties. The candidate is also expected to collaborate in program development, promotion, student admission, and the coordination of the hospitality and tourism program. 

Job Description

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses with technology applications that support programs in International Hospitality and Tourism Management, Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions Management, Tourism Marketing, Digital Media in Tourism, Food and Beverage Management and Transport and Logistics Management in Tourism;

Mentor, advise and assist students in educational and career development;

Develop strong industry partnerships that enhance student experiences;

Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department, college and university committees;

Develop a trusted network of partnerships with overseas colleges & universities to facilitate student/faculty exchange programs;

Promote the professional image of the University in local and regional events;

Obtain external research funding.

Requirements

PhD Degree in hospitality, tourism or a closely related field;

Minimum seven (5) years teaching experience in hospitality programs on BA level;

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and professional service, preferably at the rank of full professor;

Highly effective communication, interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to engage with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and business community;

Academic experience, preferably in a leadership position that demonstrates planning, program development, evaluation, problem solving, external relations, and collaboration skills;

Exceptional communication skills with a natural ability and confidence to instruct and encourage students;

Professional English with international certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

3-5 year professional experience in Hospitality and Tourism industry;

Experience in training, curriculum development and implementation;

Certified Hospitality Administrator or Certified Hospitality Education certifications;

Research background and publications in ranked scientific journals;

Experience in Statistics, Econometrics and in both Quantitative and Qualitative research methodologies.
