A cybersecurity awareness event was held at our university

Today, October 8, a preventive event focused on enhancing cybersecurity and preventing cybercrimes was conducted at our university.

Specialists from the Cybercrime Division attended the event, providing students and university staff with crucial information on currently prevalent types of cyber fraud, protection methods, and rules for safe internet usage.

During the event, real-world examples were presented, particularly regarding fraudulent phone calls and fake messages sent on behalf of executives and various organizations aiming to obtain personal data.

To protect against cybercrime, experts recommended adhering to the "5 Golden Rules":

  1. Do not open unknown APK files. Files in APK format sent from unfamiliar sources can install malware on your device and compromise your personal data.

  2. Be cautious with calls from unknown numbers. Never disclose personal or financial information to individuals claiming to be bank employees, official representatives, or institution staff.

  3. Do not follow suspicious links. Following links received from unknown sources can expose your accounts, bank card details, or other personal data to fraudsters.

  4. Do not rush online purchases. Verify the seller's reliability and the legitimacy of the offer before making advance payments for goods or services.

  5. Do not trust promises of "quick and guaranteed money." Beware of suspicious offers promising high returns through fake investments, trading, or lotteries.

Furthermore, it was noted during the event that cases involving cyber fraud have also occurred among university students since the beginning of the academic year, underscoring the vital importance of elevating everyone's cybersecurity literacy to prevent such incidents.

The specialists urged everyone to utilize specialized applications that protect against cyber threats, keep personal data confidential, and maintain vigilance regarding suspicious messages.
