On April 5-9, 2021 the Turkish Agency for International Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, organized workshop on current approaches in tourism education at the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism.

The seminars were attended by the teaching staff of the University, as well as teachers of colleges, and technical schools, and masters of industrial training under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The workshop was conducted by such experienced specialists of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) as Ersumer Eren, Omer Gunay and Isa Kelesh.

In accordance with the program of the workshop, detailed information was provided on topical issues such as: the general structure of vocational education in the field of tourism in Turkey, practices related to tourism education in European countries, analysis of the current situation in educational institutions of hotel management and tourism also distance learning in Turkey, measures of the fight against coronavirus pandemic, the practice of vocational education, trends in the development of gastronomic tourism. The workshop was held in the interactive mode in the form of round tables, discussions and exchange of views.

On the grand final day, the participants of the workshop were awarded special certificates. According to the information of organizers, the second stage of the workshop is planned to be held in Turkey.

On April 7 of this year, in Samarkand was held the Youth Badminton Championship. The competitions were held on the initiative of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports and the Badminton Federation of Uzbekistan as part of the badminton month under the motto “Love sports, live sports”.

In the competition the honor of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism was defended by Abulkasymov Jurabek and Olimgunova Sevara (1st group), Mardonov Utkir and Yakubova Mokhina (2nd group). In the individual and team competitions the students of the “Silk Road” University took the honorary third place.

The competitions were held in order to select and prepare talented athletes for the national badminton competitions, further increase the interest of young people in physical culture and sports, as well as the development and popularization of badminton sports.

We wish our students good luck at the regional and national stages of the competition!

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Uzbekistan Amira Fahmy paid a working visit to the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism. The visit was carried out as part of a series of guest lectures at the University, conducted by ambassadors, representatives of foreign delegations, international organizations, etc.

Mrs. Amira Fahmy held a guest lecture for students, in which she presented the tourism potential of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Mrs. Fahmy showed a video about Egypt in the Old Egyptian language.

In addition, there was an official conversation between Mrs. Amira Fahmy and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the “Silk Road” University A.Abdukhakimov. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of education. The Rector noted the need to maintain strong working contacts, as well as to establish an academic bridge for the unhindered mobility of students and teachers of universities in both countries.

In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Amira Fahmy expressed gratitude for the hospitality. She stressed that, for her part, she would do everything necessary to implement the plans discussed.

“Students studying at the “Silk Road” University have all the necessary conditions for studying, self-development, and recreation. I was particularly impressed by the learning process, as well as the rich library that contains all the necessary information about tourism. At this stage, it is very important to “grow” highly qualified personnel, since the development of tourism in the country directly depends on them. I am glad that the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism has all the opportunities to implement this mission” – said Mrs. Amira Fahmy in an interview with the press service of the University.

It is noteworthy that, despite the current post-pandemic crisis situation, the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism continues to expand the geography of international relations.

Enlightenment against Ignorance

In order to implement measures aimed at preventing the spread of ideas of extremism among young people in educational institutions and stimulating their interest in science and profession, put forward for discussion at the expanded meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held on January 12, 2021 under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on April 5, 2021, a seminar under the motto “Enlightenment versus ignorance” was held in the lecture hall of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism, in cooperation with the Director of the School of Hadith Studies Olimkhon Yusupov.

The event was opened by the Deputy Head of the Department of Youth Policy of the University – A. Dilmurodov.

At the event, the students were explained the historical unity and harmony of national, religious and universal values, the formation of a culture of religious tolerance, the correct attitude to religion, as well as answers to their questions.

Champion bodybuilder

On April 4, 2021 the open Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship was held in the city of Samarkand. A student of the Tour – 120S group (distance-learning department) Tashniyazov Shakhramjon took a direct part in this tournament.

Our student impressed the judges with his performance and deservedly took first place in weight category – up to 60 kg.

The administration of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism congratulates him and wishes for further victories.

Results of the Youth Tourism Festival

From March 30 to April 3, 2021, students of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism took an active part in the Youth Tourism Festival. More than 20 participants of the club “Hikingly” under the guidance of the 2nd year student Mirzayev Amirbek, as well as the teacher of the Chinese language Baykobilov Kamoliddin took an active part, both at the training stages and at the competitions.

The first day of the festival (March 30). The students went to Zarafshan National Park to participate in an individual competition in the discipline “Orientation on the terrain using a topographic map”. Each participant covered a distance of 3 km and identified all the checkpoints.

The second day (March 31). The Federation of Extreme and Mountain Tourism of Uzbekistan organized a training session, during which our students got acquainted with the discipline of RTD (Rise-Travers-Descent) and learned how to use the climbing system to climb to the top at an angle of 90 degrees.

The third day (April 1). The participants received theoretical training in the knowledge of topographic signs, tying tourist knots, as well as determining the azimuth vector using a compass.

The fourth day (April 2). Students took part in competitions in Sports tourism, which included 4 disciplines:
1. Passing the RTD route using a climbing system;
2. Tests on topographic signs;
3. Test for tying tourist knots;
4. Azimuthal course. Pass the route and search for checkpoints using the compass.

The fifth and final day of the festival (April 3). Awarding of the winners of the festival.

It is worth noting that the competitions were held at the national level, in which extreme athletes from 6 regions of the republic took part. Despite the fact that for the students of the “Silk Road” University, participation in such an event was their first experience, one of the teams (“Hot Potatoes”) of the university took the honorable 3rd place in the team competition.

In order to implement the tasks set at the meeting under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to ensure employment and organize meaningful leisure for youth” dated February 2, 2021, the university students implemented the project “Travel around Uzbekistan” in order to acquaint with the potential of domestic tourism in the Khorezm region.

From April 5 to 9, 2021, representatives of the Turkish Agency for International Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) will conduct a series of training seminars for the university's teaching staff on the topic of modern approaches in tourism education at the Silk Road International University of Tourism.

The seminar was opened with a solemn speech by the first vice-rector of the University prof. J.D.Eltazarov. He presented following invited specialists:
– Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Samarkand – Salih Yaner;
– Head of the TIKA Representative Office in Uzbekistan – Jemalettin Tuney;
– Head of the Department of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development – Shukhrat Isakulov;
– Head of the group of teachers from the Republic of Turkey – Ersumer Eren.

Seminars are aimed at analyzing the Uzbek higher and secondary special education of professional training of specialists of the tourist industry and a hotel business, which is currently increasingly affected by the processes of the surrounding world, including the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism education in our country is a fairly new direction in the system of personnel training in secondary and higher educational institutions. The seminars, conducted by the Turkish Agency for International Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA), are aimed at introducing the new needs of the tourism business to university graduates. Therefore, the training of personnel for the tourism industry and the hotel business cannot but be innovative. At the introductory seminar were highlighted the problems of innovative and popular methods in training personnel for the tourism industry.
